Getting A Job In the Cleaning Industry: Part 1

Do you want to work as a window cleaner, carpet cleaner, house cleaner, or something else along those lines? There are many ways to get a job in the cleaning industry, depending on how you want to approach your career. Some people choose to work under an existing cleaning company, while others choose to start their own. We will look at the advantages and disadvantages of both options to determine which one is right for you.

Working For An Existing Cleaning Company

You do not need any pre-training to work for a cleaning company. They will provide most of the training on the job. Of course, it helps if you are familiar with how to use the equipment they will be working with, like a steam cleaner or a carpet shampooer. Nevertheless, you mostly just have to prove that you are a trustworthy employee who is willing to learn.

Note that you may need to pass a criminal background check in order to be hired for work because you will have to be trusted in other people’s homes. If you have a history of theft or vandalism, chances are you will have to find a different career path.

Advantages Of Working For Someone Else’s Cleaning Company

  • On-the-job training
  • Easy ways to gain experience
  • Reliable pay without any marketing needed

Disadvantages Working For Someone Else’s Cleaning Company

  • Make less money than you would on your own
  • Work on someone else’s schedule
  • Limited room for growth
  • Potentially poor job security (you rely on your employer’s ability to get jobs)

Taking Over An Existing Cleaning Company

Rather than working under an existing cleaning company, you may have the opportunity to buy one outright. This may give you all the tools you need from the start, and it would give you a chance to work under a name people already trust. For instance, if a family member owns a cleaning company and is looking to retire, you may offer to take over the family business. This has its own unique pros and cons, but it is yet another option to keep in mind.
